Angela Kay Terry went to be with her Lord and Savior, Tuesday, October 12, 2021, in Norman, OK, at the age of 55, after courageously battling stage IV metastatic breast cancer.

She was born April 30, 1966, in Oklahoma City, OK, to Albert and Carol “Elaine” Black.

She was a graduate of Wewoka High School, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, and Jones International University.

After receiving her bachelor’s degree in deaf education in 1987, she taught middle school children with hearing impairments for 23 years. In 2014 she received her Educational Doctorate and served as the Manager for Students with Auditory and Visual Impairments in the Houston Independent School District. After more than 30 years in deaf education, she retired in Texas and relocated to Oklahoma, where she taught at Purcell Intermediate School.

Angela married her first husband in 1986 and adopted sons Larry D. Tillis of Topeka, Kansas, and Steven A. Tillis of Houston, TX. She married Jimmy R. Terry on June 11, 2011, in Holdenville, OK. Together, they adopted sons Michael L. Terry and Jayden P. Terry of Norman, OK. In the final days of her illness, she worried most about not being there as her younger sons grew into adulthood.

Angela was happiest when caring for others and cherished her time spent nurturing all the little ones in her life.

She was an active member at the Blanchard Church of Christ in Oklahoma but taught Sunday school classes at congregations across Oklahoma and Texas.

Angela was a natural-born problem solver and never shied away from a challenge. People who knew her well often called her stubborn, but it was really determination because she accomplished every goal she set. Angela was fiercely creative and loved to gift others with handmade items. She loved cooking, crafting, writing, painting, and could always be found with a book in hand.

She loved her mother dearly and enjoyed honoring her through traditions Elaine was well known for, like baking delicious homemade cinnamon rolls. Angela spent many a holiday attempting the perfect meringue and struggling to get her fudge to set just as her mom’s did.

Preceding Angela in death are her parents and step-brother Don Black.

Survivors include her husband and four sons, step-father Alan Eck, of Ada, OK, brothers Mark A. Black and wife Lorene, Michael W. Black, of Wewoka, OK, step-brothers Dennis Black, and wife Carol of Parkville, MO, John Black and wife Tam of Kapolei, HI, Stephen Eck, and wife Megan of Edmond, OK, John Alan Eck and wife Melissa, Jeremy Eck and wife Stacy of Ada, OK, step-sister Pam Macey of Overland, KS, and a host of other relatives, friends, and students.

The funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel in Wewoka, OK, with Buster Sides officiating and burial at Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be available at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel in Wewoka, OK, Monday, October 18, from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and Tuesday, October 19, from 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM.
