Velena Lillian (Pyle) Carpenter was born November 15, 1922 in Okemah, Oklahoma to Elmer Arthur and Julia Sylvesta (Smith) Pyle. She passed away Sunday, July 4, 2021 in Seminole, Oklahoma at the age of 98.

Velena was a resident of the Cromwell area since 1948. On November 22, 1947 she married Calvin Coolidge Carpenter. They were married 73 years. Velena was a fulltime wife and mother and worked alongside her husband on the farm. In her later years she worked as a seamstress, a clerk, and was a cook at Butner School until her retirement. She loved going on trail rides, wagon trains, & parades with Calvin and her family. She was a member of the Cromwell Church of Christ.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Lou Anna Fuller, two sons-in-law, Ron Rogers and John Turner; 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Survivors include 3 sons: Riley Arthur Williams (R.A.) of Oklahoma City, Calvin Rickie Carpenter and wife Kathy of Okemah and Carl Coy Carpenter and wife Deedra of Prague; four daughters: Lois Aileen Rogers of Tulsa, Julia Jean Marquis and husband Bobby of Okemah, Carolyn Sue Morningstar and husband Clint of Jenks, Lily Aliene (Ubbie) Turner of Ada; 2 sisters, Eulonda Lane of Texarkana , TX, and Wanda Willingham of Quinton, OK; one son-in-law, Wendell Fuller of Okemah; 26 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren, and 23 great-great-grandchildren.

Serving as pall bearers will be grandsons: Patrick Williams, Michael Dowell, Tony Yelle, Mike Amerson, Rickie Carpenter, Jr. ; and great-grandsons Stevan Parker, Daxx Rogers, and Jordan Carpenter.

Funeral Services will be held on July 14th at 2 p.m. at the Cromwell Church of Christ under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Okemah. Burial will be at Sand Creek Cemetery at Cromwell.

Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home and officiated by Bro. Paul Dowell and Bro. James Branscum.
