Robert Lemmings
Robert “Dewayne” Lemmings, Konawa resident, passed away on October 15, 2021, in Ada, Oklahoma. Dewayne was born on February 8, 1932, in Seminole, Oklahoma to Roy Edgar and Vada (Hill) Lemmings. He attended school at Prairie Valley and Strother High School. He was a corporal in the US Army and became a Military Police Officer during the Korean conflict. He enjoyed telling stories about playing horseshoes when he was in the Army. After the service, Dewayne married Evyleen Maxwell on July 19, 1955. Dewayne and Evyleen had two daughters, Dana Grace and Marilyn. They also had a son Ed Lemmings and adopted son, Terry.
Dewayne attended OSU Tech School, where he specialized in automatic transmissions and tune-ups. He made a long career in the field of mechanics, working in dealerships from Oklahoma City to Ada. He later went to work as a mechanic in the oilfield with Seminole Company and retired from there. After retiring, Dewayne felt a calling to help build and repair churches and worked with a team of builders from the Baptist Builders Association. They traveled all over Oklahoma repairing and building churches. He drove a church bus for many years and helped make a home for many foster children through the years. When it was time to retire to the farm, he enjoyed working on the farm building fences and working with cattle. Dewayne had a deep love for family and enjoyed helping people more than anything else.
Dewayne is survived by his wife, Evyleen Lemmings of the home; son, Ed Lemmings and wife, Denise of Seminole, OK; two daughters, Marilyn Frederick and husband, Richard of Ada, OK and Dana Grace and husband, Don Dobbs of Arkansas; two sisters, Mary Chesser of Midwest City, OK and Imogene Bebee of Arizona; seven grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and many other family and friends.
Dewayne was preceded in death by his parents; son, Terry Allen Lemmings and brother, JT Lemmings.
Those serving as casket bearers will be Alec Thrower, Layne Thrower, Kevin Taylor, Colton Taylor, Nathan Bradshaw and Josiah Grasser.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2021 from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma with Jay Hill and Allen Wood officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
