Harjo Joanna Mary Harjo, Konawa resident, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024 in Oklahoma City at the age of 71. Joanna was born on September 2, 1953 in Talihina, OK to Jonases “Smokey” Harjo and Mary Ellen (Scott) Harjo. She grew up in Maud, OK and Texas. She married Curtis Gentry on August 6, 2002 in Van Buren, Arkansas.

Joanna enjoyed garage sales and casino hopping. She was a big jokester and she liked to pick on people. She loved everyone and was kind to most.

Joanna is survived by her husband of 22 years, Curtis Gentry of Konawa; son, Jacob Harjo and wife, Shanna of New York; siblings, Albert Curly of Maud, Toni Harjo of New York, Tiffany Harjo of Seminole, OK, Tisha Tiger of Seminole, OK, Lynda and David Cowen of Guthrie, OK, Sherry Gentry of Edmond, OK, Denise Harjo and Jimmy Dean Harjo of Seminole, OK, Thomas Gentry of Chickasha, OK, Sue Brown of Guthrie, OK and Starla Longest of Edmond, OK; one grandchild, Adalyn Harjo; nieces and nephews, Jeremiah Harjo, Joshua Phelps, Keelan Paschal, Elizabeth Harrison, and the tribe; great niece, Samantha Phelps; great nephew, Thomas Parker-Cotton and many other family and friends.

Joanna was preceded in death by her grandfather, Lee Harjo; father Smokey Harjo; mother, Mary Ellen Scott Harjo; two brothers, Leon Harjo and Randy Harjo; three sisters, Rosie Harjo, Kathie Hurst Harjo and Rita (Harjo) Phelps.

Viewing will be Thursday, October 24, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Friday, October 25, 2024 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, OK.

A wake will be held Friday, October 25, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, OK.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, OK with Rev. Kevin Fox officiating. Interment will follow at Harjo Family Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, OK.
