Read moreDepression can feel like a weight crushing you. It can feel like an ocean wave that keeps pushing you under the water while you’re struggling to just keep your head above the water. It can feel like you are being strangled. Depression can affect people in so many different ways, it can physically prevent you from getting up in the morning, it can make you not want to eat, it can make you not want to be around people, it can make you want to binge eat, and so many others things. Depression is much more common than you think. I know this from experience. I personally suffer from depression, anxiety, and depersonalization disorder. It is an everyday struggle to get up and be a happy person. Even though I have all of these mental health issues I can still manage to go out with my friends and have an amazing time. While the good days are super great unfortunately the bad days are the exact opposite. Bad days can feel like I’m struggling to breathe, like every day is the exact same and will be like that for the rest of my life, and it makes me feel like I’m barely surviving and that any little thing can push me off a cliff. Like I said before, mental health issues are very common, especially in today’s time, 46.4% of American citizens will suffer from mental health issues sometime in their life. I believe mental health should not be a hushhush topic and it should be required in school to better inform the students and the staff on how serious mental health issues are. If you know anyone that may be suffering from a mental disorder, reach out to them, be there for them, because they need you. They need someone to talk to or someone to cry to. They need someone to listen to them, because they feel like their world is crashing down on them. If you do suffer from a mental disorder you should not be ashamed of it and if you need someone to talk to, you can talk to a friend, a teacher you trust, the school counselor, you can even reach out and talk to me, because I know what it feels like to have no one to talk to when you need them the most.
