Carter Kathryn “Kathy” LaVerne (Roberts) Carter passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at the age of 81.

Kathryn, daughter of Lee and Lela Roberts was born on August 10, 1943, in Holdenville, Oklahoma. She graduated as valedictorian from Moss High School in 1961, where she was a star basketball and softball player. She went on to play collegiate basketball at East Central University and graduated with a 4.0 GPA. She received both her Bachelor and Master’s Degrees in Education.

Kathryn moved to Oklahoma City and worked as an Executive Assistant at General Motors Corporation. It was there she met the love of her life, Ernest Mac Carter, and were married on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1965. In 1973, the family moved to Seminole and together they raised their family centered around Christian faith and the love of God. Kathryn was a member of the First Baptist Church of Seminole, where she sang in the choir and played handbells.

Kathryn loved children. She taught second grade second at Woodrow Wilson Elementary in Seminole for 26 years. In her retirement, she spent her days enjoying time with her grandkids, traveling to watch their dance competitions and ballgames, and teaching them her recipe for chocolate rolls. She always looked forward to rooting for the OKC Thunder and Oklahoma Sooners with her dog “Beanie.” She loved to shop with her sister and always had her nails painted red.

Kathryn found joy in going on trips with her Sunday school class and maintaining the special relationships with her fellow retired educators. She was very proud of her sons and grandchildren, always praising them for their accomplishments, but mentoring them with a focus of always placing God first in their lives. “Aunt Kathryn” loved each of her nieces and nephews like they were her own children, and they adored her kind, sweet and gentle personality.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jean Carroll Robertson; and husband, Mac.

Those left to cherish her memories are her son, Brad Carter and wife Shari, of Seminole; son, David Carter of Seminole; grandchildren, Abby, Maya, and Nate Carter, of Seminole; sister, Mary Ann Puckett and husband Ed of Cushing; brother, Gerald Roberts and wife Brenda, of Finley; brother-in-law, Lynn Robertson, of Mulberry, AR; sister-in-law, Sue Ann Humphrey of Ashland; sister- in-law Virginia Vietta of Durant; as well as numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including special family friend, Kaitlin Childress.

Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Seminole on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Wayne Edgar officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole. Casket bearers will be Terry Robertson, Kenny Robertson, Larry Robertson, Brian Puckett, Heath Davidson, Greg Davidson and Seth Humphrey. Honorary bearers will be Mark Johnson, Mike Snyder, Jim Choate, Johnny Belletini, and Dr. James F. Kuhn.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
