Maxine Davis

Maxine Viola (Laxton) Davis was born on September 2nd, 1932 to Homer and Viola Laxton. She was born into a family full of love with nine brothers and sisters, with Maxine being the sixth child. Maxine later attended school in Bowlegs, OK. Maxine was attending church in Seminole, OK with her family in which she snuck out to go to a movie. Little did Maxine know, she would meet Clifton, the love of her life, on her way to sneak back to the church. Since then, Maxine and Clifton have been inseparable with over 74 years of marriage.

Once married, Maxine and Clifton welcomed three beautiful children to the world: Julia Ann, Joe Clifton and Gregory Lynn. As a family, Clifton, Maxine, and the kids lived in various states for Clifton’s job, including Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas. The Davis family made new friends everywhere they would go. Maxine enjoyed all of the traveling, but also loved going home to see her family.

Maxine enjoyed being a loving and devoted wife and mother more than anything else. She found canning and sewing to be some of her favorite hobbies. Maxine canned everything from tomatoes and okra, to peaches and pears. Her canned tomatoes are a family favorite. They were even better when she would make her pot of macaroni & canned tomatoes. Her sweet tea was out of this world!

Once Maxine’s children were grown, she found an interest in selling Sarah Coventry and Avon products. She went on to sell Sarah Coventry products from 1970-1975. In Maxine’s long-lived life, she helped raise many children, from her siblings to her own children, down to her great-great grandchildren. Maxine has been called mom, grandma, Nema, Nana, Nanny, and much more. The only name her grandchildren were not allowed to call her was Granny.

Maxine’s love for her family outweighed everything else. She enjoyed watching the children play and grow up, planting flowers, listening to Alan Jackson, visiting family and friends in Seminole, and watching papa raise the chickens among other things. Maxine’s final days were spent in her home in Laverne, with the love of her life by her side.

Maxine is preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Viola Laxton, eight brothers and sisters, son Gregory Lynn Davis and grandson Mark Lynn Davis.

Maxine is survived in death by her husband of 74 years, Clifton Davis of Laverne, OK, her daughter Julia (Judy) Davis of Woodward, OK, her son, Joe Davis of Enid, OK, as well as over twenty- five grandchildren, great grandchildren, and greatgreat grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Laverne Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in the Laverne Cemetery, Laverne, Oklahoma.
