Amelia Harjo
Seminole resident, Amelia Ann Harjo, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at her home.
Amelia, the daughter of AlexanderBurgessandJoan Harjo, was born August 10, 1950, in Wewoka. Amelia married Eastman Harjo, SR. She always liked gardening, garage sales, going to the casino, and playing horseshoes, pool and dominoes. Amelia grew up in Konawa. She loved to tell the story about her grandma Lydia, riding in the back of a wagon. She would always tell everyone about her grandkids, she was very proud of them. She was happy to see her great grandbabies, who loved her so much and it was a great joy for them to play and see their ‘grandma cookie”.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Joan Harjo, and her step-father Alex Burgess; brothers, Robert West, Charles Burgess, Sam Harrison, and George Burgess; a sister, Nita K Jacob; her father, Thomas Long; one grandson, Damien Sewell; and her husband, Eastman Harjo, SR.
Amelia is survived by her sons, Charlie Harjo, of Seminole, Eastman Rick Harjo, of Seminole and Kenneth Hill of Aberdeen, SD.; daughters and sons-inlaw, Eunice and Mike Blythe of Seminole, Evette and Thomas Yahola, of Konawa, Tambra Harjo of Seminole, and Ann Jones and Greg Poafpybitty of Bowlegs; a brother, Claude Burgess, of Konawa; four sisters, Shirley Harrison, of Seminole, Joammie Woods, of Seminole, Gwen Warrenburg of Seminole, and Marcella Bryan, of Tulsa; 22, grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Burgess, Ron West, Johnny Harrison, David Bryan, Johnny Bryan, and Wes Roulston. Honorary pallbearers, will be Tyler Jones, Anthony Wood, Bo Warrenburg, Darius Sewell, Daquery Sewell, and Cahsten Sewell.
A wake service will be Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
Services will be Saturday, June 17, at 1:30 P.M. at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, with Billy Foster and Houston Tiger officiating. Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery in Konawa. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
