Joanne Baxter
Longtime Seminole resident Joanne Phillips Baxter passed away peacefully October 9 in Bartlesville, OK.
Joanne moved to Seminole from Oklahoma City after World War II when her parents, Milt and Ruby Phillips, purchased the Seminole Producer. She graduated from SHS in 1954,and earned both her bachelor and masters degrees from OU. After marrying Jim Baxter in 1960, they moved back to Seminole from Dallas in 1972 where Joanne taught third grade at Woodrow Wilson School for over 30 years.
Joanne loved road trips and traveling, her long-time book club, hosting parties at her home, antiquing and flea markets, OU football, and spending time with her family. She moved to Bartlesville in 2021 to be closer to family.
Surviving family includes daughter and son-in-law Amy and Brian Compton of Independence, Kansas, grandsons Carson, Duncan, and Spencer Reid of Reno, Nevada, other family members Maggie Dyer, William Baxter, Ted S. Phillips, Mary Betty Baxter, Ben and Marilyn Compton, and Lisa and

Daryl Pruter. Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, Jimv Baxter, parents, Milt and Ruby Phillips, and brother, Ted Phillips.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The Journey Home in Bartlesville would be appreciated (thejourneyhome. org). The Journey Home is a non-profit hospice facility that provides compassionate care for patients at the end of life and their families at no cost. Joanne passed in this beautiful setting and was so loved and well cared for that her family wants to help The Journey Home continue to serve other families. A memorial service is planned for later in October, her family will share details with family and friends in Seminole.
