Wanda O’Daniel
Wanda June (Peters) O’Daniel, 90, passed away on December 30, 2021, at her home in Maud, Oklahoma surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 6, 1931, in Maud, Oklahoma to Carl Peters and Hazel (Rutledge) Peters. She graduated from Maud High School in 1949 and attended business school in Shawnee. On August 20, 1950, Wanda married Curtis O’Daniel in the Fairview Church “The Old Rock Church” northwest of Maud. Sadly, Curtis passed away January 4, 2018.
Wanda and her husband Curtis had four sons and raised them together in the family businesses which included farming and ranching, O’Daniel Mud Pit, O’Daniel Power Swivel and O’Daniel Tire Co. Wanda was very active in the businesses as a bookkeeper. She was also very active in her church, Trinity Baptist Church in Maud. She loved her family’s get-togethers, reading and flowers.
The O’Daniel family has been an icon in Maud, Oklahoma history for over 90 years. Curtis and Wanda were proud of the fact that Maud Public Schools had an O’Daniel in the school system for nearly all of those 90 years.
Wanda leaves to cherish her legacy, sons and daughter’s-in-law; Jack and Ronda O’Daniel of Maud, Barry O’Daniel of Maud, Steve and Melissa O’Daniel of Maud and Kevin and Carole O’Daniel of Seminole., her brother; Don Peters and his wife Sue of Maud, 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grand children, her beloved black poodle, Sassy and a host of other family and dear friends.
Viewing for Wanda will be at Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home in Maud, Oklahoma from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, January 2 and from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, January 3 and Tuesday, January 4.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at Trinity Baptist Church in Maud, Oklahoma with Rev. Butch Bradley officiating. Interment will follow at Cummings Cemetery where Wanda will be laid to rest next to her husband Curtis O’Daniel.
Casket bearers will be Shane O’Daniel, Heath O’Daniel, Brian O’Daniel, Jason O’Daniel, Brett O’Daniel, Jason Brewer, Damien O’Daniel Tyler O’Daniel and Trevor O’Daniel. Honorary bearers will be Mike Peters, Tony Peters, Jeff Peters, Joel Wilson and Paul Lucy.
Services are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home in Maud, Oklahoma.
