Jimmy Douglas Sullinger
Jimmy Douglas Sullinger was born on February 16, 1959, to Mary Louise aka Louise and JD Ferrell, in Modesto CA. We lost our dear and beloved friend Jim on November 20 th . Jim was in Ft. Walton Beach helping his daughter and granddaughter. He was at Fort Walton Beach helping his daughter when he passed away unexpectedly. He is survived by his parents, His parents divorced while he was young. Robert Dale Sullinger later married Louise, which changed Jimmy’s, and (his surviving brother) Michael David’s last name to Sullinger. Jimmy is also survived by his sister Debbie Sullinger. Jim was raised in San Jose, CA until he was 15 ½ years old. He made many friends in California. His family eventually moved Jimmy to Bowlegs, Oklahoma. He attended and graduated at Bowlegs High school. He would meet his high school sweetheart and surviving first wife Tami , their surviving son Zachary, and granddaughter Aluera. They all reside in Mcalester, OK. At the age of 28, Jim joined the military naval branch. He felt proud to have served his country. This is also where he met his surviving 2nd wife Sandy, their surviving daughter Bianca, and granddaughter AJ. They all reside in Ft. Walton Beach, FL. Jimmy also has a second family he is survived by which he considered family, his 2nd mother Carol Freeman Turner and his second father Bob Turner. He was incredibly close to them both. This is where he learned he had a passion for racing dirt bikes. Bob and Jimmy would fix up those motorcycles to get them lighter, and faster. He raced until he moved to Oklahoma, with his parents. Jim resided in Shawnee, Ok. He was in the process of selling his property (whichhe refered to as his “man cave”) and relocating.
He had a silly sense of humor and a fierce love for wrestling with friends. He loved classic cars, motorcycles, especially dirt bikes, loved fishing, kayaking, boating. He loved the sound of birds, he said if he could come back, he’d come back as a bird. He was very proud of his son Zack and never hesitated to say so to anyone. He loved and cared deeply for his daughter and always wanted her to be happy.
Jim had friends and neighbors in Shawnee.
Jimmy and I met shortly after I moved to Steelman Estates in February 2013. I don’t think it was until after the May 19th tornado that we began forming our bond. Anytime my shop door was open, it was like an invitation to him. He always wanted to know what I was working on, wanting to help, and always giving advice…. mostly unsolicited!! He and I made several trades and purchases along the way, with one another. One in particular was the 99’ Chevy short wide I bought from him…. Months after, he started hounding me to buy it back. I had replaced the engine in it with a larger 5.3. I ended up selling it back to him. A short time later, he was run off the road by an inattentive driver - totaling the truck. At which time I bought it back from him, Fixed it, and drove it a couple more years. I decided to buy a motorcycle, and borrowed his trailer and headed to Texas to pick it up…. When he saw the bike, “08’ Raider “ he had to have one too. So I turned him onto one that I had been looking at. He bought it. Although, we never went on a ride together. He swore up and down that his was faster!! You couldn’t have asked for a better neighbor. One that would help anyone and would give his last meal to someone in need. Although there were times we couldn’t stand each other, we always got along. He made a lasting impression on me during the time I knew him. I will miss my friend, and cherish the memories we made. Till we meet again brother…
