Carl Smith
Carl Lee Smith, longtime Seminole resident, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 3, 2021, in Edmond, Oklahoma.
He was born on November 30, 1922 in Anderson, South Carolina, to parents Chester Franklin and Inez (Milligan) Smith.
He lived in California for 28 years before moving to Seminole, Oklahoma and lived there for thirty years. He was a current resident of Edmond, Oklahoma.
Carl attended the Church of Christ in Wewoka, Oklahoma. He was a member of the American Legion and was a charter member of the Air Force Sergeants Association. Mr. Smith retired from the United States Air Force at Hamilton Air Force Base California on April 11, 1969 as a Chief Master Sergeant after 26 honorable years to his country. He had served in the 78th Security Police Squadron ADC. He later retired from the San Leandro School District in California in 1979.
Carl married Betty Louise (Plunkett) on September 9, 1978 in Carson City, Nevada.
Carl is survived by one son Brian Carver and his wife Sheryl of Tuttle, Oklahoma, two daughters; Gayle Williams and her husband Windall of Paducah, Kentucky and Marcy Lail and her husband Steve of Edmond, Oklahoma, three brothers; Frank Smith of South Carolina, J. B. Smith of Georgia and Donald Smith of South Carolina, seven grandchildren, Rachel, Cindy, Chris, Jennifer, Brad, Kimberly and Jeremy and sixteen great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and one great-great grandchild on the way
Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Louise (Plunkett) on January 30, 2019, one son, Robert Smith, granddaughter, Dana Lail and grandson Johnny Cox II.
Private family graveside services for Carl will be held on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 2:00 P.M at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole, Oklahoma with full Military Honors. Bradley Lail will officiate the service.
Casket bearers will be Brad Lail, Evan Weinfeld, Danny Weinfeld, Kyle Wiersma, Chris Williams.
Due to the current pandemic, there will be a special memorial service for Family and Friends at a later date to honor Carl’s life.
Service arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
