Retired Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Pilot, Robert Gene “Bob” Hurst, 79-year-old Maud, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life Sunday, May 26, 2019 while working on his farm in Maud. He was born August 22, 1939 in Maud, Oklahoma to parents John Charles “J.C.” Hurst Jr. and “Jimmie” Louise (Pittman) Hurst. Bob attended school at Carr City and Pleasant Grove, graduating in 1957. Bob worked in the oilfield industry as a driller for many years, then he chose to work with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol starting January 2, 1966. He was stationed in Osage, Pitts-burg and Pottawatomie Counties. He worked as a patrolman for the first part of his career then he transferred to the air craft division, being the eye in the sky. Bob retired from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol on February 1, 1986 after serving 20 years. He still worked for the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety as a risk manager. When Bob wasn’t working, he was working on his farm raising cattle.

Bob had been a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, he was a member of the Oklahoma Troopers Association, the Texas longhorn Association and the Oklahoma Public Employee Association.

Bob married his first wife Jo Carol (Harding) Hurst on May 27, 1958 in Maud, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on February 22, 2008.

Bob later married Norma (Goss) Hurst on October 14, 2017 in Tecumseh, Oklahoma.

Bob leaves to cherish his memory his wife Norma Hurst of the home; sons Neal Hurst of Eufaula, Oklahoma, Mike Goss of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Mark Goss of Macomb, Oklahoma, Brad Goss and his wife Cindy of Weatherford, Texas, Derek Goss of Little Rock, Arkansas; daughters Robyn Hurst of Maud, Oklahoma, Lisa Goss of Pink, Oklahoma, Gina Goss of Shawnee, Oklahoma; one brother, David Hurst and his wife Phyllis of Texas; grandchildren John Robert “J.R.” Hurst and his wife Lisa of Eufaula, Oklahoma, Shelby Hurst of Maud, Oklahoma, Skylynn (Hurst) Heaton of Strother, Oklahoma, Britney (Hurst) Posey of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Holli (Hurst) Cumpton of Eufaula, Oklahoma; great grandsons Robert Hurst of Eufaula, Oklahoma, Tyler Hurst of Eufaula, Oklahoma; great great-granddaughter Sawyer Renee Wayne of Eufaula, Oklahoma; and a host of other family and dear friends.

Bob w as preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Jimmie Hurst, by his first wife Jo Carol Hurst, by one brother Raymon Hurst, by one sister Melody (Hurst) Guinn, by infant twin grandsons and by one daughter-in-law Beverly Hurst.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.

Funeral services with Oklahoma Highway Patrol Honors will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 31, 2019 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel located at 1001 N. Milt Phillips Ave. Seminole Oklahoma. Oklahoma Highway Patrol Chaplain Sam Gardener will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud, Oklahoma.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
