Patrick Michael Barrett, 88-year-old lifelong Seminole resident passed away from this life Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Grace Living Center at Norman, Oklahoma. He was born on May 5, 1935, in Seminole, Oklahoma to parents, Michael William Barrett and Bertha (Mae) Ford Barrett. Patrick grew up in Seminole and graduated from Seminole High School in 1953. He attended OSU for Industrial Arts and East Central University.

He married Phyllis Barrett on December 22, 1959, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and they were married for 58 years. Patrick and Phyllis were active in the Catholic Church, Pat was a previous member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree, he taught Catechism classes with his wife in previous years, and they were both members of Oblates at St. Greggory’s to deepen their relationship with God in the place where they live dayto-day life. Patrick worked at Barrett Welding, Seminole, Oklahoma, beginning at the age of thirteen with his father. He worked at Tinker Air Force Base for over 12 years and returned to working at the shop with his brother Mickey. He also worked as a roustabout for Anson Production. After his wife departed, he moved to Norman, Oklahoma to live with his daughter and sonin- law Angelia and David Goss and be closer to his son and daughter-in-law, Michael Barrett, and Terry Barrett. His son would take him on nature driving expeditions every Saturday to Sulphur, Oklahoma, to reminisce about where he would always take his family as a younger father, or his favorite hobby, going to the casino. He loved Mother Nature’s surroundings and taught all his grandchildren about survival in the wilderness. He loved to fish and spend time with his grandchildren, but most of all teaching the ways of the Bible and to love God.

Patrick leaves to cherish his memories, his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Terry Barrett of Norman, Oklahoma and their daughter, Megan Barrett and Jay Gonzales of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, daughter and son-in-law, Angelia and David Goss of Norman, Oklahoma and their children, Blake and his wife Abi Goss and Zachery Goss of Norman, Oklahoma, one brother, Martin Barrett of Seminole, Oklahoma, one sister and brother-in law, Joan and Leroy Roberts of Bella Vista, Arkansas, sisterin law, Patsy Barrett of Tulsa. On Patrick’s wife’s side he leaves brother-inlaw and wife Charles and Debbie Anson of Seminole, Oklahoma and sisterin- law, Elizabeth Brooks of Wetumka, Oklahoma, with a host of other family and dear friends.

Patrick is preceded in death by his father and mother, Michael William Barrett and Bertha Mae Barrett, wife, Phyllis Ann Barrett, sister and brother- in-law Mary Rose and Pete Bergin, brother Jack Barrett, Holdenville, Oklahoma and Mickey Barrett and sister Margaret Kay Barrett, Seminole, Oklahoma, nephews Brian Barrett of Georgia and Matthew Barrett. On his wife’s side he is preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Woodrow and Irene Anson, brothersin- law and wife Woodrow T. Jr. (Doogie) and Mary Beatrice (Betty) Anson, of Seminole, Oklahoma, their son Anthony (Tony) Anson and daughter, Connie Robertson, brother- in-law, David Anson of Hartshorne, Oklahoma, and his son David Kendall Anson. A reception/viewing scheduled at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, Friday, May 12, at 5:00 pm followed by a rosary at 6:00 pm. Funeral will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, located on Wrangler Blvd on Hwy 9, with Father Joseph P. Schwarz, O.S.B. officiating at 3:00 pm, and he will be laid to rest at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Seminole, 900 N. Harvey Road, located 2 miles East on Hwy 270. Pallbearers will be Charles Anson, Jerry Anson, Eddie Anson, Robert Anson, David Goss, and Steve Goss; Honorary Pallbearers: Martin Barrett and Bill West. Memorial requests or donations appreciated to Interfaith Social Ministry Food Distribution, Seminole, OK, which provides food for those in need. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
