Larry Strickland
Larry Joe Strickland, also known to his loved ones as Grandpa George, was born December 23, 1940, to Royce and Pat Strickland of Asher, OK.
He was 80 years old when he passed away at home on July 13, 2021, surrounded by his loved ones.
Larry attended Seminole High School, where he first met the love of his life, Phyllis.
He served in the U. S. Marine Corps right after high school. Following his service, he went to school in Shawnee at OBU and became a minister.
He also managed college cafeterias in multiple states. He worked for Storage Technology as an IT technician. He and his wife later went on to own a hair care product distribution business for 20 years. Larry loved to ride his bike avidly: to the store, around the neighborhood, and just for fresh air and exercise. He loved spoiling his wife and his fur-babies.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years Phyllis Strickland and sister Raedean McGruder; his seven children, Nealon Adams, Denise Strickland, Kim Wells, Kellie Dunn, David Strickland, Dusk Florow, and Debbie Strickland; his 19 grandchildren; his 12 great grandchildren; his two fur-babies, Gidget and Izzie; along with many family and friends He is preceded in death
He is preceded in death by his parents, Royce and Pat Strickland, and his sons, Darrell Strickland and Larry Adams.
Services to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, July 19, 2021, at 10:30 AM at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home located at 1820 S Douglas Blvd Midwest City, OK 73130 followed by the burial at Little Cemetery, 11522 OK-99, Seminole, OK 74868. Officiant for Larry’s service is Nealon Adams, along with Zach Northrip leading prayer at graveside services.
Serving as Pall Bearers are Cory Wells, Jesse Still, Ryan Adams, Joel Still, and Riley Koenig.
Honorary Pall Bearers are Nealon Adams, Dusk Florow, Rick Still, and David Dunn.
Larry will be available to be viewed on Saturday, July 17, 2021, 10am - 8pm and Sunday, July 18, 2021, from 8am - 8pm. His family will receive friends for visitation between 2pm-4pm on Sunday.
