Joseph Stevens, age 73 of Wewoka, O K , departed this life on Monday, December 7, 2020 in Oklahoma City.

He was born January 31, 1947 in Enid, Oklahoma to the late Wesley Edward Stevens and Dovie Rachel Ford Stevens.

He attended Enid High School until the 11th grade at which time he joined the United States Army in October 1966.

He always talked about one of the proudest moments in his life was being able to serve his country honorably. He was honored with two bronze stars, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Medal. He married Jessie Smith on December 23, 1966 in Enid, Oklahoma and to this union three children were born.

Joseph drove a school bus for Oklahoma City Schools and worked in the US Post Office until 1983 when he moved to Wewoka, Ok. He worked for the State Highway Department and Wewoka Public School for many years. Joseph and Jessie attended Gleaners Holiness Church for over 40 years.

Preceding Joseph in death are his parents and one sister, Ruth Ann Hopkins.

Survivors include his wife Jessie of the home, daughter, Lorna Stevens and companion David Johnson of Wewoka, OK, her children, Samantha and Jeremiah Stanfill , their sons Parker and Preston Stanfill, Lora Johnson and Harley Johnson. Son, David Stevens and wife Gwen of Springfield, MO, their two sons, Johnathan Stevens and Jonah Cobb of Springfield, Mo, daughter, Naoma Davis and husband Gary of Wewoka, OK, their sons, Tyler Davis and wife Kristen of Purcell, OK their son, Granger Davis of Purcell, OK, Travis Davis and wife Jasmin of San Diego, CA, their son, Travis Dayven Davis of San Diego, CA and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pall bearers will be Allen Smith, Charles Smith, Dale Smith, Charles McGillberry and Jimmie Smith.

Honorary pall bearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.

The family extends a Special thank you to the Veterans Hospital and Staff of Oklahoma City.

Services will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, December 9, 2020 at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel with Pastor Larry Chesser and assisted by Tony and Marla Chesser. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery.
