Lemaster John W. Lemaster passed away on July 15, 2024, he was 62 years old. John was born in Oklahoma City, OK, to Thomas R. “Tom” Lemaster and Virginia “Sue” Lemaster (Kean) on October 3, 1961.

John was very young when the family moved to Colorado. He attended schools both in the Appleton and Fruita, CO area. He graduated from Varnum High School in 1980. John loved riding horses and participated in rodeo and roping competitions for several years. In August of 1980 John married Zoe Scott at Spruce Lodge on the Grand Mesa. They spent nearly 30 years together in the valley. John worked several years as a carpenter and then his interest turned to law enforcement. He worked about a year with a security firm in Grand Junction and then in 1984 he joined the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department. John worked initially in Detention, but over the ensuing years, after graduating from CLETA, he worked as Patrol, Crime Scene Technician, SPRT member/ SWAT, Narcotics Investigator with the Joint Drug Task Force, Field Training Officer, Firearm Instructor, Driving Instructor, Courthouse Deputy, and a Professional Standards Unit deputy. He left the Department in 2010. John relocated to Oklahoma after leaving the Sheriff’s Department and worked at Walmart for over 10 years until the end of 2023. In May of 2024 John started working at Wetumka Oklahoma in their Detentions facility.

John was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting, camping, hiking, fishing and passing along his knowledge to his children while camping. Later in life he took a great interest in motorcycles and riding.

John’s father Tom preceded him in death. Survivors include his mother, Virginia “Sue” Lemaster of Seminole, OK, sister, Dora Sue “Susie” Lemaster (Davis) and husband Davey of Seminole, OK. Sons, Jesse G. Lemaster (Sarah Lemaster) of Orange City, IA, and Jason W. Lemaster of Grand Junction, CO. Grandchildren, Azariah Lemaster and Tirzah-Rey Lemaster of Grand Junction, CO. Nephews, Portel Bellamy of Tulsa, OK. and Sean Willis of Seminole, OK. Niece, Brittany Willis of Seminole, OK. Along with numerous other family and friends.

Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on July 21, 2024, at Littel Cemetery chapel in Seminole OK with Jason Lemaster officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family in lieu of flowers.
