Jerry McGehee
Jerry Alexander McGehee passed from this life at his h o m e north of Seminole, Oklahoma on Monday, September 21, 2020.
Jerry was born on February 16, 1936 to Myrtle (Hodges) and Carl McGehee, at Red Mound in Northern Seminole County.
There he would also make his home and raise his little family.
Jerry served his country in the United States Army from 1956 to 1962 as a Sergeant and after active duty he served time in the Oklahoma National Guard.
Jerry worked for several construction companies throughout his working career as well as driving a truck for Sooner Chemical. He was an expert at operating heavy machinery and enjoyed doing so. He worked for many years for Seminole County as a road grader and dozer operator.
On July 4, 1958 he married the love of his life Patsy Posey in Wewoka, Oklahoma. To this union their daughter, Jerry Pat, was born.
Jerry enjoyed traveling and exploring different roads traveling throughout the country. He was an excellent horseman and loved trail riding, camping, riding 4-wheelers, working on his farm and watching his great grandchildren, until his health declined.
He raised cattle and enjoyed it to the fullest. Jerry was also a member of the American Legion Post #213.
Jerry was a wonderful husband, father and grandpa. He loved his family and was always there for them. His last job was babysitting his great-grandchildren early in the morning, until the parents made it home from their work shift.
He was always ready and willing to help. Jerry was a God-fearing man and throughout the years he attended church regularly. There is no doubt that he is now touring heaven with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, along with his dear loved ones that have gone on before him.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Patsy McGehee, his daughter Jerry Pat and Ed Keeley, his grandchildren; Chad and Jessica Grant and Kelly and Fielding Lucas, four great-grandchildren ( and one on the way) Caedon and Brooks Grant and Leightyn and Addie Lucas, his sister-in-law Ilene McGehee of Cromwell, Oklahoma and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and one sister.
Viewing for Jerry will begin Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at Swearingen Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, September 24, 2020 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, with Military Honors. Michael Tom will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka, Oklahoma.
Casket Bearers will be Fielding Lucas, Chad Grant, Donnie Posey, Jack Horn, Dean Galleciez and Ed Keeley.
