Jeffrey Dinsmore
Jeffrey Alan Dinsmore of Wewoka passed away at home on the morning of July 22, 2020 at the age of 60.
Born on August 19, 1959 in Odessa, Texas to O.R. “Tokey” Dinsmore and Carol Hand, née Austin,
Jeff spent his childhood living in Texas, Oklahoma, Wyoming, and Louisiana. He often spent summers on his grandfather’s farmland near Wewoka that he came to love and eventually reside for most of his adult life.
Jeff graduated high school from Southwood High School in Shreveport in 1977. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering from Louisiana Tech University. His career in the oilfield took him to a variety of states and overseas to Stavanger, Norway, while he became father to his eldest three children.
Jeff left the oilfield and moved with his wife, Jeannie Dinsmore, to his family’s land near Wewoka where his youngest child was born.
Jeff’s inquisitive nature and adept mind led him to work as a business owner, rancher, farmer, and medical practice manager in and around Wewoka for more than 20 years before returning to the oilfield. Jeff demonstrated the rewards that come with a good work ethic and being a well-rounded person.
He pursued and developed a dynamic variety of hobbies and interests that included fishing, water skiing, bicycling, cooking, reading, hiking, motorcycles, and surfing along with being able to discuss a wide array of books, music, movies, and sports.
Travel was among his chief interests and helped his family and him develop an open view of the world, its people, and its cultures.
In 2017, Jeff began a long battle with cancer, though he continued working, traveling, and spending time with friends and family, including his six grandchildren who affectionately knew him as Obi-1
Jeff was preceded in death by his mother, Carol Hand; her husband, George Hand; and aunt, Dr. Sandra Thomson of Los Angeles, California.
Jeff is survived by his loving wife Jeannie of Wewoka; son David Dinsmore, spouse Amy, and their children, Lily and Levi, of Shawnee; son Drew Dinsmore, spouse Maggie, and their children, Ella Kate and Bree, of Dubberly, Louisiana; son Jon Eric Dinsmore, spouse Shanna, and their children, Emma and Oliver, of Flower Mound, Texas; and daughter Lauren Dinsmore and partner Nathan Hahn of Denver, Colorado; brother, Steve Dinsmore and spouse Nancy of Durant; and 14 nieces and nephews.
