James Lee (Jim) Wetherington, 90, of Hot Springs, Arkansas passed away July 6, 2023 surrounded by his three daughters. He was born November 5, 1932 in Donaldson, Arkansas to Joseph Wetherington and Mary Caroline Norwood Wetherington. He was a graduate of Malvern High School and a long-standing member of the United Methodist Church, currently attending Oaklawn UMC.

Jim was a proud Navy veteran who served on the USS Essex, followed by a long career with JCPenney which included moves throughout several states. He was a valuable part of Boy Scout Troop 10 at Oaklawn Methodist where he influenced countless young men. At all turns in his life, Jim volunteered and gave back to his community.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Peggy Paul Wetherington, his son James Paul Wetherington, and granddaughter Kelsey Kidd. Survivors include his wife, Judy Wetherington, daughters Leah Mathews (husband Dale Mathews), Ella Kidd (Bob Hough), and Jennifer Kay (husband Bill Kay). Also survived by grandchildren Jessica Wetherington, Travis, Greg and Michelle Mathews, and Tori Kay, as well as great-grandchildren Baxter and Penelope Wetherington.

Services were held on Monday, July 10 at Oaklawn United Methodist Church with Rev. Gail Brooks officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Oaklawn UMC, Hot Spring County Historical Museum in Malvern, or the charity of your choice.

Jim was a goodhearted man of honor and integrity and will be missed.
