James Lawrence Hubbard, loving and devoted husband and wonderful father, passed from this life on September 24, 2019 in Seminole, Oklahoma at 91 years of age. James, a resident of Lima, Oklahoma, was born September 30, 1927 in Lima, Oklahoma as the only child to parents Edward Douglas Hubbard and Elizabeth (Gross) Hubbard.

James attended Lima Elementary and Middle schools and then went on to attend Douglas High School in Wewoka, Oklahoma and graduated in May 1947. From there he went on to play college football in Baltimore, Maryland at Maryland State College.

James served in the United States Army during the Korean war.  On May 26, 1956 James married Maggie Douglas Hubbard in Bakersfield, California.

James worked for Tinker Air Force Base and later for Wilson Packing Company, retiring after 22 years.  For 61 plus years, he was a devoted and faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Lima and served as a Deacon and Trustee of the church. He was a member until his health started to fail. He was a very strong believer in reading the bible and teaching his children about God and his word. He never met a stranger and always spoke about God and his word and goodness to all he met.

He leaves to cherish his memories; a loving devoted wife of 63 years, Maggie Hubbard of the home; 6 sons, Victor Hubbard of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Fred Hubbard of New Lima, Oklahoma, Edward Hubbard and his wife Joan of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Lawrence Hubbard and his wife Daiva of Virginia, Albert Hubbard of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Max Hubbard of Lima, Oklahoma; 5 daughters, Sonya Knight of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Savory Hubbard of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Leuria Hubbard of Lima, Oklahoma, Telah Hubbard of Seminole, Oklahoma, Tana Lemisio and her husband David of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 16 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and a host of other family and dear friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Elizabeth Hubbard.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 5, 2019 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Dr. W.E. Cooper officiating the service.  Interment will follow at Lima Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Max Hubbard, Albert Hubbard, Delaine Hubbard, Fred Hubbard, Rodney Hubbard and Marc Knight. Ushers will be Gwen Rovston, Carolyn Jones, Todd Goss and Wendell Payne.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
