Glen Thomas
Glen Thomas entered the family of Otha Thomas and Vita Mary (Beauchamp) Barrett on January 26, 1940, about three miles south of the Y, between Konawa and Sasakwa. He had two older siblings; Gwneth (Gwen) and Robert (Bob) and three younger siblings; Linda, Nancy, and Ricky.
Glen’s entire childhood was spent living the good life, roaming the hills and creeks within one mile of his birthplace. He graduated from Vamoosa School. The Barrett family is known for a good game of Rook. You could count on Glen to give you a hard time (in fun) if you were his partner. Glen joined the army after high school. As part of his enlistment, he was classified as a teletype operator and was stationed in Germany. Glen came back to Ada, where he applied for a job at Southwestern Bell Telephone. As part of the testing for that job, Glen found that he had a high aptitude in math and had scored the highest anyone had scored. While living in Ada his family worshiped with the Central church of Christ. At one point, Glen moved his little family to Massachusetts to help with a church plant. When they moved back, he owned and operated Barrett Oil Company. Glen’s grandmothers, Dora Barrett and Nancy Beauchamp contributed greatly to his Christian walk. At the time of his passing Glen and wife Janet worshiped with the church of Christ in Konawa.
Glen had three sons (Tim, Andy, and Robert). In August of 1985, Glen married Janet Welch. This union added Janet’s four children (Gary, Roy, Cindy, and Wendy) to the family.
Glen passed away on May 8, 2021. Survivors include his wife Janet of the home, sons Tim Barrett of Ada and Andy Barrett and wife Kim of Guthrie; three stepchildren, Roy Lee Paulson of New York, Cindy Thetford and husband Rick of Holdenville and Wendy Perry of Newcastle; brothers Bob Barrett and wife Belle of Ada, Ricky Barrett and wife Barbara of Sasakwa; sisters Linda Wood of Ada, Nancy Riggle and husband Bill of Konawa and Frank Brewer a brother-in-law of Maud, along with many nephews, nieces, fellow Christians, and friends.
His son, Robert Frank Barrett preceded him in death, along with his stepson, Gary Paulson, his father Otha Barrett, his mother Vita Barrett, and his sister, Gwen Brewer.
You are invited to a memorial celebration for Glen on Saturday June 12th at 10:00 a.m where the church of Christ meets on ole 99 highway northeast of Konawa. Family and friends are invited to SHARE FOND MEMORIES of Glen who was loved and respected by many. The Sunday sibling Rook games will be sad without him, but he will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
