Services for Gale Dean Hughes, 75, of Konawa will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 28, 2021 at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel in Ada. Pastor Roger Hughes will officiate. Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery.

Mr. Hughes, a lifelong resident of Seminole County passed away Sunday, January 24, 2021 on a beautiful day, overlooking his beloved ranch in Vamoosa, OK, with his faithful wife of 53 years by his bedside. The cause of death was many years of devoted labor and Parkinson’s Disease.

Gale was born May 16, 1945 in Konawa, OK to Lee A. and Dell Merrell Hughes. He attended Vamoosa public school and East Central State College. After busting out of East Central College in 1965, preferring to manage and operate the Hughes family dairy, he married Roberta (Dansby) Hughes. Operating the dairy for 10 years, he went to work for Davidson Implement in Ada, OK for 17 years. Gale later worked for Randy Walker for seven years and six more years working at New Lima Public Schools, where he retired to full time ranching in 2007.

Gale served on the Vamoosa and Konawa Public School Boards. He served on the Seminole County Conservation District Board, many years on the Central Oklahoma Family Medical Board and 38 years on the Seminole County Farm Bureau Board.

Gale was truly a jack of all trades and very work driven. He never met an implement he could not fix. He had an impish sense of humor, beautiful soul, infectious smile and was enthusiastic in all his endeavors.

Gale married Roberta Dansby in 1967. Together they raised three children, Karen, Roger and Lee. His pride and joy was his children and grandchildren.

He leaves behind his wife, Roberta, of the home; his children, Roger Hughes and wife Renee of Wagoner, OK, Karen Gardner and husband Terry of Ada, and Dale Lee Hughes and wife Allison of Konawa; eight grandchildren, Joshua N. Hughes, Micha Hughes, Jeremy Harbin, Nathan Sanders, Joshua Brent Hughes, Caleb Hughes, Kaylee Hughes and Reid Hughes; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Loetta Sanders and husband Dale, Ada.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Dell Hughes; one brother, Glen Hughes; and many loved cousins.

Gale was truly a great man whose impact will forever be felt by his family that loves him dearly, but knows that they will see each other again!

He was a selfless man whose passing has left a hole that only he can fill. His ability to love, sacrifice, provide, support and forgive will forever be lessons to all he knew. His only regret was that he did not prepare and pass more of his knowledge to his sons and grandsons. He was a true self taught man with so many talents.
