Demetrese Burris

Demetrese Burris was born September 2, 1978, in Seminole, Oklahoma to Marcia Burris and Marcus Butler. He was the eldest of three children to his mother Marcia. He was raised by his mother, who was his best friend and confidant until the day of her passing.

Demetrese began his education in Seminole elementary and graduated in 1997 from Seminole High School. After graduation Demetrese attended Langston University. He loved to play sports and excelled as Defensive Back for Seminole High School 1996 State Football Championship Team. Later Demetrese had his first child, Mia, with family friend Aiko Louie. Demetrese became deeply involved with his second daughter’s (Deitra) mother, Myrtle “Weezee” Miller, and moved to Ada, Oklahoma. Demetrese worked as a Mental Health Service Provider while living in Ada and continued that profession after moving to Wichita, Kansas. While living in Wichita Demetrese met his youngest child’s (Tatum) mother, Shalan Field. While living in Wichita Demetrese changed his profession to Delivery Truck Driver. Demetrese always kept in close contact with his mother Marcia and would travel several times during the years to Seminole to make sure she and his brother, Dewayne were okay.

Demetrese passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2022, in Oklahoma City. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marcia; sister, Deitra and grandmother, Irene Burris.

Demetrese will forever be missed by his daughters, Deitra Miller and Mia Louie; son, Tatum Burris; two brothers, Dewayne Burris and Desmond Butler; three sisters, Justina Alabi, Michelle Johnson and Talisha Williams; five uncles, Willie (Doug) Burris, Johnny (Bob) Burris, Wallace Burris, Michael Burris and Lonzo Burris; two aunts, Rosie Burris and Yalonda Burris; grandmother, Delores Jones and a host of cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Brother Reggie Knighton officiating.
