Melton Carol Sue Melton, Norman, OK resident, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2024 in Norman at the age of 79. Carol was born on June 4, 1944 in Clinton, OK to Robert Louis and Clara (Nickel) Chew.

Carol enjoyed traveling, genealogy, photography, sweepstakes, sewing and politics. She grew up on a farm near Corn, OK with her mom, sister and grandparents. Carol lived in the OKC and surrounding area until she moved to Seminole with her husband, Leon in the early 1970’s. She briefly lived in Port Mansfield, TX until she moved to Norman, OK in 1998. She retired from her career as a Registered Nurse in 2011.

Carol grew up a member of the Herald Mennonite Church in Corn, OK. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the 10K Sweepstakes Club. She was co-chair of the Democratic Party in Seminole County in the 1980’s. Carol was also the co-owner with her husband, Leon Melton of LESCO in Seminole for 25 years.

Carol is survived by her three sons, James L. McDonald Jr. and wife, Connie of Fayetteville, AR, Gregory L. McDonald and wife, Joy of Yukon, OK, N. Scott Melton and wife, Nadean of Norman, OK; step-daughters, Pam Mills of Tulsa, OK, Patricia Melton of Tulsa, OK, Gloria David of Texas, Melba Melton of Chickasha, OK and Gale Largent and husband, Scott of Tuttle, OK; sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Martin Bass of El Reno, OK; four grandchildren, Sarah McDonald, Mattie Davis and husband, Josh, Seth Melton and Sebastian Melton and many other family and friends.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leon Melton; son, Jeffery Lee McDonald and aunts, JoHanna Nickel and Tillie Nickel.

A reception will be held at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, OK on Friday, June 7, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024 at Little Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, OK.
