The Varnum Lady Whippets won the Area Consolation championship Tuesday night with a 69-43 win against Paden. The team played in the Area Championship on Monday night against the #1 team in class B, Lomega and lost a hardfought game 58-40. Even with the loss to Lomega, the Lady Whippets still had a chance to punch their ticket to the State Tournament in the consolation game that was played last night. This is the 6th year in a row that the Lady Whippets have gone to the State Tournament. The team was State Champions in 2019 and State Runner Up in 2020. —Photo courtesy Jeanne Gosa

Read moreThe Thunder returned to action inside of Paycom Center Thursday and wasted no time putting on a show for its home crowd. Going up against the number one team in the Western Conference, the Thunder shook off a slow start, battled back from a 19-point deficit in the first half and took a lead in the second half behind a stout defensive effort. The Thunder received contributions from multiple sources including its second unit as well as leading scorer Shai Gilgeous-Alexander who made his return to the lineup and logged a gamehigh 32 points.
