Hispanic cuisine is beloved the world over, and much of that infatuation can be traced to Mexico. Mexican cuisine is flavorful and can be enjoyed any time of year. But even ardent Mexican cuisine enthusiasts may never have tried authentic Mexican food. Many Mexican restaurants outside of Mexico offer only a hybrid form of this beloved cuisine that, while delicious, does not reflect traditional Mexican recipes.

Read moreCanadian Valley Electric Cooperative introduced the winners of their 2020 Youth Tour Contest. The contestants had to submit an application and an essay over a given subject. They had an excellent pool of candidates in this growing program. This year’s winners are Dali-Anne Owens of The Academy of Seminole & Kamryn Brewer of Varnum High School. The winners will be traveling to Washington D.C. with 70 other Oklahoma High School Juniors representing CVEC and gaining a lifetime of memories, education, and experiences.
Read moreOn March 3, 2020, members of the Zeta Epsilon Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International Sorority, a philanthropic organization met at the First United Methodist Church parlor. Pam Robinson was the hostess for the meeting. Co-hostesses were Susan Gates and Tara Hurt. Hostesses served ham and cheese sliders, chicken salad with croissants, chips, fruit tray and dip and a variety of desserts. Before the business meeting, LaDonna Vanlandingham, Educational Director, introduced Justin Holliday. Justin attends the Methodist church where he often plays and sings both traditional hymns and original pieces during the services. Justin began playing the piano in the 4th Grade. His mother taught him how to count out the keys to create a chord and from there, Justin learned the piano. He has played and sang with his family at their church since he was a small child. Justin comes from a musical family and keeps his ties to his family by keeping the traditions alive. He entertained the group by singing and accompanying himself on the piano the song “Renew Me.”

Smithsonian notes that, by the end of the 18th century, roughly 40 percent of the Irish ate no solid food other than potatoes. If that sounds like a boring diet, it’s good to note that all that was necessary to make potatoes desirable and more versatile was a little creativity.
