Read moreThis weekend, the CNN documentary series Shades of America will be highlighting Oklahoma farmers in their Sunday, July 26 episode. George, Milford, and Alvin Roberts, who are some of the last black farmers who still own and operate the ranch earned by their family through the Emancipation Proclamation, will be featured in the episode. Their farm, Circle “R” Ranch, is located in Seminole County. In a press release sent by the brothers’ niece Dr. Tammy Grey-Steele, she calls the Roberts, “the last few of the backbones of the black farm heritage.”
Read moreThe Seminole State College (SSC) Board of Regents approved a measure at their meeting on Thursday that would make the wearing of face coverings mandatory on campus. To open the meeting, Seminole attorney Ed Cadenhead administered the oath of office for Chair Curtis Morgan. Morgan was recently reappointed by Governor Kevin Stitt. His new seven-year term as a Regent will conclude on July 1, 2027. Next, Interim Vice President for Fiscal Affairs Courtney Jones presented the financial report. She shared with the Board that the college has been able to provide financial assistance to more than 600 students through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act funds. Student distribution of the CARES Act funding is ongoing.
